A 23-year-old man has been seriously assaulted in Chorley after trying to break up a fight between two groups.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses after the man was attacked during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Officers said the incident happened at around 1.10am in the Chancery Road area of Astley Village, near Chorley.
It is thought the victim, who is from Leyland, had been on a night out when an altercation occurred between a group of people.
The man tried to intervene and police believe he was punched in the face by another man, resulting in a fractured jaw.
He was also knocked unconscious after falling to the floor, and was taken for treatment at the Royal Preston Hospital.
DC Andy Doran of Skelmersdale CID, who is leading the investigation, said: “We would like to trace anyone who witnessed what happened.
“We know there were a number of people in the area at the time and I would urge them to contact me on 101 quoting log number 0155 of July 11th.”
