Police are trying to trace two good Samaritans who came to the aid of a young girl, slashed across the face with a blade.
The pair found the 15-year-old covered in blood in the main street in Burscough almost five weeks ago.
But they have so far not been traced by officers keen to find out more information about the incident on Friday July 31.
Police believe the girl was assaulted earlier in Vicarage Gardens. She was punched in the face and suffered two slash wounds to the face. Her assailant was believed to be a man in his twenties and was driving a silver car.
The girl was found outside the Spar shop in Liverpool Road around 6.30pm by two members of the public, who took her to hospital at Ormskirk.
“This was a nasty assault on a young girl and it is thanks to the two good Samaritans who took her to hospital that she was able to receive medical treatment for her injuries,” said PC Carmen Whittle.
“We believe they may have further information that could greatly assist with our enquiries and I would urge either of them to come forward and get in touch with us. I would also urge anyone who may have witnessed the attack itself in the Vicarage Gardens to contact us with any information.”
