Police are appealing for information following an alleged sexual assault on two 14-year old girls in Morecambe.

Officers say the incident happened at around 3.15pm on Saturday on a cycle path between Trimpell Sports and Social Club and the Frankie and Benny’s on Central Drive. It is alleged that the girls were approached by a group of boys and then subjected to a sexual assault.

Det Insp Jason Richardson said: “We are treating this extremely seriously. The girls involved are being supported by specially trained officers.”

Five boys, three aged 12 and two aged 14 and 15 from Morecambe were arrested on suspicion of rape and assault by touching. They have been bailed until August pending further enquiries.
