LANCASHIRE police are running ‘Operation Shepherd’, a pre-Christmas initiative to raise awareness of crime trends and to ensure personal safety.
Crimes such as theft from vehicles, burglaries, robbery at business premises and violent/sexual crimes due to increased alcohol consumption typically rise at this time of year.
An example is that yesterday at Walton Summit, a HGV parked up overnight and had its curtain sides slashed in an attempt to steal property from inside. The offenders were disturbed and made off.
Officers are urging people to ensure their Christmas gifts are not left on view in vehicles or property, to watch out for pick pockets when shopping or on a night out.
Revellers are also asked to makes sure they have a designated driver.
