A drunken learner driver lost control of a Ford Transit van and caused a five-car crash with parked vehicles.

Callum Postlethwaite, 20, of Weeton Road, Wesham, near Kirkham, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol without insurance, not in accordance with his provisional licence and failing to stop after an accident. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £570 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £300 compensation with £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Trevor Colebourne, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, had foolishly agreed to drive his friend’s works van, as the friend had had a lot to drink.
