The man had been walking his young Jackapoo in Lancaster's Ryelands Park at around 6pm on Friday, January 29 when his dog was attacked by an "aggressive" Staffy cross.

It happened close to Nippers Nursery and Lune Park Children's Centre and left the Jackapoo needing surgery to treat its injuries.

The dog has since recovered, but police say the incident has caused "significant stress" its owner, who has been left to pay a £600 vet bill.
