Crews were called out to Alder Road near to the Grange Primary School at around 7.30pm on August 29 after an old discarded lawnmower was set alight on a pavement.

The fire was quickly put out using a hose reel.

The second fire started in Ribbleton at around 8pm after a wooden panel was set alight at the back of shops in Burnsall Place.

Firefighters used a hose reel to put out the fire which they say looked like a children's den.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We would like to remind members of the public that small deliberate fires like these tie up vital resources which means we are unable to attend other more serious fires.

"Although nobody was injured in either incident they had the potential to have much more serious consequences."
