Benefit fraudster case

A woman illegally claimed more than £11,000 in benefits while working at a high-class chauffeur-driven car service.

Karen Loftus, 43, of Poplar Avenue, Warton, near Preston, told investigators: “I’m disgusted with myself.”

She pleaded guilty to three offences of failing to notify a change in circumstances.

She was sentenced to 12 months supervision and fined £100 with £85 costs and £60 surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

PRESTON: A thief has been given an 84-day sentence, suspended for 12 months, and a curfew by Chorley Magistrates’ Court.

Linford Ainsworth, 19, of Moor Road, Chorley, admitted stealing a sat nav, interfering with a car, possessing a knife, and stealing scooters.

He must do 80 hours unpaid work and pay an £80 surcharge.

CHORLEY: A man who damaged a woman’s house furnishings was jailed for 36 days by Ormskirk Magistrates’ Court.

Scott Lee, 35, of Brindle Street, Chorley, had an “element of revenge” in his actions, the bench said.

He must pay £140 compensation, a £80 surcharge and £135 costs.

PRESTON: Andrew Furlong, 51, of Old Millstones, Preston, has admitted harassing a woman from East Lancashire.

The bench at Preston Magistrates Court ordered him to pay a £100 fine, £20 surcharge and £85 costs.

CHORLEY: A woman who tried to flee the country before her trial for assaulting a Chorley woman, has been found guilty of assault.

Stoina Dumitru, 44, of HMP Styal, in Cheshire, who also admitted attempted theft, was jailed for three months by Preston Magistrates, which ruled the victim was “vulnerable”, and must pay £100 compensation.

PRESTON: A man who admits using racially aggravated threatening behaviour and damaging a door and phone has been ordered to pay a £200 fine, £100 compensation, a £20 surcharge and £85 costs.

Hendrix Dawson, 40, of Church Street, Preston, appeared before Preston magistrates.

PRESTON: Robert Tunnicliffe, 40, of Port House Lane, Rochdale, admitted assaulting a woman from Preston.

He is to be sentenced by Preston Magistrates’ Court on April 23.

Paul Peers, 50, of Coppull Moor Lane, Coppull, was banned for 23 months after admitting drink driving and must do 100 hours unpaid work and pay a £60 surcharge and £85 costs.

Richard Prescott, 30, of Derwent Road, Chorley, was discharged for 12 months after admitting harassing a woman but must pay a £15 surcharge and £85 costs and observe a restraining order.

Danny Saul, 20, of Ellerbeck Avenue, Brookfield, Preston, was discharged for 12 months after admitting stealing groceries but must pay a £15 surcharge and £85 costs.

Fraser Gallagher, 21, of Hardridge Road, Glasgow, was found guilty of assaulting a Lancaster man and must have 12 months supervision, and pay £100 compensation, a £60 surcharge and £80 costs.

John Rimmer, 48, of Elswick Road, Southport, admitted driving without due care and attention in Mere Brow, near Preston, and must pay a £110 fine, 
£20 surcharge and £200 costs.

Scott Preddy, 20, of Thornton Road, Morecambe, was discharged conditionally after admitting possessing the class B drug methylphenidate, but must pay a £15 surcharge and £50 costs.

Hristo Atanasov, 28, of HMP Cardiff, admitted being drunk and disorderly in Preston and must pay a £50 fine and £20 surcharge.

Philomena Creighton, 37, of Aughton Walk, Preston, was bound over in the sum of £100 for 12 months after admitting breaching the peace.

Aiden Francis Daly, 18, of Seymour Street, Chorley, admitted obstructing a police officer and must do 80 hours unpaid work, and pay a 
£60 surcharge and £85 costs.

Kurt Brown, 19, of Daisy Meadow, Clayton Brook, Chorley, admitted failing to comply with a community order by not attending appointments and must pay a £60 surcharge.
