The star, who plays Ken Barlow in the ITV soap opera, has not yet entered any pleas to the allegations which date back to 1967.
Dressed in a navy blue suit and white shirt Roache, aged 81, of Meadow Way, Wilmslow, Cheshire, spoke only to confirm his full name, William Patrick Roache, address and date of birth.
When asked if he understood his bail conditions, he replied: “I do understand, yes.”
Roache left the court in a black car, making no comment to the large gathering of press waiting outside the court.
He will next appear before the Recorder of Preston Judge Anthony Russell QC at Preston Crown Court on June 10, for a preliminary hearing.
He has been granted bail with the conditions he resides at his address in Wilmslow or an alternative address in London and does not contact two named people.
He must not have any unsupervised contact with any person under the age of 16 and has surrendered his passport to the police.
