Clubber left scarred for life after dancefloor attack, court told

His alleged attacker, Royal Navy engineer James Clarke, 25, from Chorley, is on trial at Liverpool Crown Court denying wounding with intent and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Ken Grant, prosecuting, told a jury that the incident happened in Bamboogy club in Wigan’s King Street in the early hours of October 17.

“The prosecution say that this was a drink fuelled, unprovoked, unjustifiable unlawful attack, upon a young man who posed no threat to him at all all,” said Mr Grant.

HGV driver Mr Platt, told the court that he ended up in the club after an evening out with his friend James Harmer and two young women.

He said the two women were by the DJ booth and he saw Clarke and a smaller man approach them.

He saw thatone of the women was uncomfortable with the smaller man who appeared to want to hug her.

“I put my arm out and told her to come over and dance with me which she did.

“That is when things started.

“All I remember if getting a smack across the face with a bottle and blood pouring out everywhere.”

He had a deep wound to the right side of his face about 12 cm long from his right eye through the cheek to his mouth and he has been left scarred.

Clarke denies the charges and the case continues.
