Det Con Andy Lever, of Lancashire Constabulary’s East Division CID, said "This was a particularly cowardly attack on a lone female who was walking home from a night out.

“It appears the two males have been around Rawtenstall Town Centre before they started to follow her home.

“It was a busy night as it was the start of the Easter weekend.
