Police were called by the ambulance service at around 8.40pm on Friday, May 22, after a body was found in Manor Street.

The ambulance service had earlier received a report of concern for safety and fire crews forced entry to the home, where a man's body was discovered.

Police said no cause of death has been established but it is not being treated as suspicious.

Following CCTV enquiries, police would like to identify the man pictured, seen at a nearby store on May 18.

Officers believe he could be the same man whose body was found at the home in Manor Street.

Efforts are now being made to trace the man’s next of kin and officers are appealing for information to help identify him.

Det Sgt Andy Bleasdale, of Burnley CID, said: "We are appealing for information to help identify a man sadly found dead at an address in Nelson.

"We have conducted a number of enquiries but have yet to identify him and are urging anyone who can assist us to come forward.

"We believe this man, pictured at a local store on May 18, could be the man who died.

"If you recognise him, please come forward and speak to us. Any information we receive would be treated in the strictest confidence."
