A fourth worker at a care home at the centre of neglect allegations has been arrested, Lancashire Police have confirmed.

A 42-year-old woman, from Lostock Hall, near Preston, has been quizzed by detectives investigating allegations about the Briarwood Rest Home in the town.

However, the allegations against her are not believed to relate to neglect, but form part of the same investigation.

The 18 elderly residents in the home, in Todd Lane South, have now been rehomed after its owners decided to close it last week.

Three other workers - a 63-year-old man, a 58-year-old woman from Preston, and a 41-year-old woman from Preston, who were arrested over allegations of neglect and mistreatment of residents, remain on police bail.

Det Insp Jes Holland, of Preston Police’s public protection unit, said: “ We can confirm an investigation into Briarwood Rest Home is ongoing and a fourth person has been questioned in connection with the investigation.”
