Three men who trashed a popular Indian restaurant during a burglary have been jailed.

The trio stole three quarters of the alcohol stock from the former Blue Elephant restaurant, now known as The Elephant, on Dawber’s Lane, Euxton, near Chorley.

During their crime spree, in the early hours of June 12, Stephen Bradley, 27, Anthony Tymon, 22, and Peter Seale, 33, caused £1,500 damage to a door and £245 damage to a table.

Preston Crown Court heard they also stole a £200 cash float and £400 of booze, causing a further £200 to the till.

But they were caught when their getaway car was stopped – with the stash of spirits sloshing about.

Judge Pamela Badley heard a restaurant menu and till receipt was found in the vehicle linking them to the break in.

All three admitted burglary, with Seale admitting drink driving and having no insurance or licence.

Bradley, of Pleasant Terrace, Tameside, and Seale, of Baguley Crescent, Middleton, Manchester, received eight months in prison, while Tymon, of Collindale Avenue, Blackley, Manchester, had his four month sentence suspended for 12 months, with 80 hours unpaid work. All must pay a £900 criminal court charge and £100 surcharge

Today victim Ajob Deb, 52, who has had the business for 14 years, said: “I had to pay for the repairs and stock out of my own pocket.

“Some of the alcohol was returned to me but I was not prepared to use it, it could have been contaminated. I live 42 miles away and only knew of the break in when the police rang me to tell me. My friend, who is a joiner, was able to board up some of the damage. But it was business as usual – we were preparing to open our cocktail bar and function room.”

The father-of-two added: “They broke a window to get in after damaging the door.

“To me it’s a petty crime. They must have been desperate.

“The customers were really supportive and many did not realise what had happened.”
