A 22-year-old woman from Preston is being held in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

It is in connection with a man who was stabbed in the stomach in the early hours of Thursday morning – just after midnight.

Police and ambulance crews were called to a home on Geoffrey Street in Deepdale.

The 26-year- old man was taken to Royal Preston Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

A police spokesman said: “We were called shortly after 12am on Thursday, August 3 to reports a man had sustained a stab wound to his stomach at an address on Geoffrey Street, Preston.”

A Geoffrey Street resident, who did not want to be named, told the Post that parties were always going on at the house where the attack is believed to have taken place .

“There are always girls and a few lads outside the flats,” she said. “They party a lot and there’s a baby that lives there, not more than eight months old.

“I came out last night and saw a girl in jogging bottoms being put in the back of the police van.”

Another resident said that she had not heard anything when the attack was supposed to have taken place.

She said: “An Ambulance parked here last night behind my car but we didn’t know what was going on.

“It’s scary when you have young children.”

Enquiries are on-going to establish how the man sustained his injuries.
