A man has been charged after a violent altercation that ended with a 26-year-old man being stabbed

The man was stabbed in the shoulder after a violent row in the Ribbleton area of Preston on Friday afternoon.

The attack happened during what police describe as an “altercation between four men” on Harling Road, next to Ribbleton Park.

The man was taken to Preston Royal Hospital where he was treated and later discharged.

This morning police confirmed that Richard Watkins, 20, of Samuel Street, Preston, has been charged with robbery and possession of a firearm. A second man has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

It is believed a car was stolen during the incident.

DI Jonathan Clegg from Preston CID said: “While incidents of this type are rare, I would like to reassure local residents that we are committed to finding out exactly what happened during this incident.

“We are still trying to piece together the circumstances and so I appeal to anyone who may have witnessed anything at the time to contact us.”

One neighbour saw the drama unfold from her home.

She said: “I saw police and an ambulance.I heard sirens and flashing lights, and CSI were here.

“They cordoned off right across the road and along the trees.”

She added: “I was a bit concerned, I’ve got a young daughter.”
