A couple from Warton who raised £1,000 for charity were given the opportunity to present the cheque themselves during their honeymoon.

Dawn and Allan Park, were married at The Villa, Wrea Green, on July 11 earlier this year and the kindhearted newlyweds used their big day to raise money for the Make A Wish charity.

Dawn said: “We said if our guests wanted to give a gift, that we would ask for money so that we could donate half of it.

“Thanks to the generosity of our family and friends we were able to donate £1,000.”

While the couple where enjoying a fabulous honeymoon aboard the Independence of the seas cruise ship, Dawn and Allan presented a cheque to the Captain and cruise director of the ship, who were bowled over when they heard they would be donating such a substantial amount.

Dawn said: “Royal Caribbean Cruise ships are sponsors for the charity and raise money for the foundation.

“The cruise director announce which day the “walk for wishes” will take place, where passengers are invited to donate £10 to purchase a “make a wish” t shirt which you then wear walk a mile, on deck with other participant.

In our case, we donated a bit more than £10 - we donated the £1,000 we had raised and the cruise director thought it would be appropriate for the Captain to receive the cheque on our behalf.”
