“Sudden loss of life is always tragic - but when those lives are extinguished by other human beings, it is even more so.

Terrorism can only succeed if the terrorists succeed in driving a wedge between people of different faiths, races and nationalities.

“The British people will not allow them to do so. Local and Central Governments, across Europe will continue to share intelligence and work closely with the security services to ensure the safety of residents and tourists alike.

“Those who are in the fortunate position of being able to travel and spend money should continue to do both - ensuring that we do not inadvertently permit further suffering as businesses fail and the tourist economy dwindles.

“The thoughts and prayers of us all are with the victims and their families.”
