The leader of South Ribble Council has described her former colleague as “wonderfully wry” after hearing of his death.
Jim Hothersall, a former Penwortham Mayor and South Ribble Councillor passed away after a short illness on January 22.
Councillor Margaret Smith, Leader of South Ribble Borough Council, said: “Jim served the council and his community with distinction from 2007 to 2011.
“He quickly became cabinet member for our Streetscene Services, a role which he undertook with great precision and enthusiasm.
“He was incredibly perceptive and had a wonderfully wry way with words, and we’re sorry to have lost him.
“Our thoughts are with Jenny and family at this sad time.”
Mr Hothersall served as the Mayor of Penwortham between 2009/10 and was also Chair of Finance for the Town Council.
Steven Caswell, Penwortham Town Council Manager, said: “Jim was a hardworking and loyal member of Penwortham Town Council.
“He will be sadly missed.”
Mr Hothersall leaves behind wife, Jenny, daughters, Joanne, Paula and Clare, and was “grumpa” to Alice, Charlie and Leo.
He was also described by his family as “a dear brother” and “will be loved and remembered always.”
A funeral service will be held at Preston Crematorium today at 4pm.
The family have requested that no flowers are sent but donations are preferred to be sent to St Catherine’s Hospice c/o funeral directors, Neal Buckley, Penwortham
