Oh no, it isn’t ... oh yes, it is – it’ll soon be panto time again.

Comedy legend Jimmy Cricket will be starring as Muddles in this year’s festive offering at Preston Charter Theatre.

Guild Hall bosses have revealed that this this year’s pantomime in Preston will be Snow White and the Magnificent Seven and are promising a show jam-packed with fun, laughter, hissing and good old- fashioned slapstick.

This year’s panto will be provided by Duggie Chapman MBE who is sure to make the pantomime a success with more than 30 years’ experience in the entertainment industry.

Duggie has a host of showbiz awards under his belt including Producer of the Year voted by readers of Encore magazine, British Music Hall Society Lifetime Achievement Award and an MBE for services to light entertainment and charity. Duggie is no stranger to Preston Charter Theatre, as he used to stage the annual pantomime back in the early 1990s before moving on to produce more than 100 pantomimes.

He still produces pantomimes in Billingham, Bolton and Barrow in Furness and is excited to be returning to the Charter Theatre once again.

Written and directed by Duggie, this year’s show will be complete with a live band, beautiful costumes and spectacular sets and a talented cast with years of experience.

Jimmy Cricket in the role of Muddles is sure to delight
audiences young and old.

Famous for his trademark wellies on the wrong feet and funny hat, theatre-goers are bound to be told “come ’ere” and “there’s more” as he reads his letter from his mammy.

Supporting Jimmy will be the Magnificent Seven, more commonly known as Goody, Loopy, Noisy, Lazy, Sneezy, Growler and Shabby played by Malcolm, Trevor, Mark, Melanie, Blake, Luke and Glynn.

Between them they have combined film and TV credits including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Willow, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, Labyrinth and Phoenix Nights.

Also joining the cast will be Jim Whelan as the Henchman, a regular on Coronation Street as Rev Todd and with other TV credits including The Liver Birds, Crown Court, Cracker, Heartbeat, Emmerdale, The Royle Family, Blackpool and Last of the Summer Wine.

Panto veteran Pete Lindup will be appearing in his 25th pantomime as Sarah The Cook alongside Yvonne Patterson as Queen Cruella.

Yvonne’s theatre credits include Helen in A Taste of Honey, Lady Hewlett in WAG – the musical which ran in the West End.

Adam Trembath will make his Preston debut as The Prince and Blackpool lass Kristina Castellina will take on the title role of Snow White.

This year’s pantomime will be a change in formula for the Guild Hall and Charter Theatre as for the last five years, the panto has been written and directed by Lancashire comedian Ted Robbins who also starred in the last five shows.

However, Guild Hall chiefs are convinced this year’s festive show will be just as popular and successful.

Melanie Hutchings, general manager at Preston Guild Hall and Charter Theatre, said: “We are extremely excited to welcome Duggie and the cast to the Charter Theatre for what I’m sure will be another successful year.

“Our annual pantomime it always very popular with tens of thousands of people attending each year and we hope they’ll be joining us again this Christmas.”
