A major store in Preston city centre was evacuated this afternoon after a fire alert.

Firefighters were called to Boots in Fishergate shortly after 1pm after a smoke alarm went off.

After the cause was investigated, there was a smell of burning.

The building was evacuated as a precaution.

No further details have been released.

Earlier, fire crews were called to a lorry on fire on the M6.

The incident happened on the southbound carriageway near the motorway exit near Forton services.

The vehicle suffered damage to a small area.
