Ten men were arrested after football-related disorder broke out in Chorley.

Before Saturday’s match between Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers, police launched an operation in anticipation of hundreds of football supporters meeting at Chorley Railway Station.

Just after noon, a member of the public reported 25 men squaring up to each other on Devonshire Road recreational area and a fight broke out. Police chased the men on foot down Devonshire Road, Fleet Street and Market Street and detained 10 men, who were all arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

Police said the men, aged 15 to 22, all gave addresses in east Lancashire. Det Insp Paddy O’Neill, from Preston CID, said: “Aerious disorder was thankfully averted on this occasion.”

The men have all been released on bail.
