Chorley FC's Marcus Carver is the real deal now

Chorley striker Marcus Carver has been given a huge pat on the back by his manager Jamie Vermiglio.

The 24-year-old forward has been in outstanding form during the club’s sensational start to the season.

He has notched three goals and led the line admirably to help the Magpies win nine and draw one of their opening 10 games to go nine points clear at the top of the National League North.

They are also through to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup after last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Leek Town – a game which Carver also scored
in.

Carver has always been an integral member of the Magpies team over the past few years, but Vermiglio believes the team is benefiting further from a maturity in his play.

“Marcus’s work-rate and desire has been fantastic,” said Vermiglio. “He has been playing with such a high intensity for the past 11 games.

“He’s been non-stop and has been very important to how we have played.

“He has set the tone and has found some really good form. Marcus has scored a few goals and we’re made up for him.

“I think he’s matured – he has in the past been a little bit erratic with the things he says and the things he does.

“He’s a lot more mature now with the way he plays and the way he handles himself.”

The Magpies will hope to maintain their nine-point lead at the top when they welcome Chester to Victory Park this weekend.

A four-figure crowd is expected and Vermiglio said: “There should be a few fans on the game, we are all really looking forward to it.”
