A road in Morecambe was closed due to an unsafe chimney stack.

Euston Grove had barriers up from the Euston Road end up to just before Billy Hill.

Police were called on Boxing Day at 10.45pm due to the danger of a chimney falling into the road.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue attended the scene and deemed it unsafe because there was a large hole and a crack in the chimney.

The road was cordoned off due to the danger of the chimney falling.

Lancaster City Council building control attended the scene on Tuesday. The owner of the property in question was putting some scaffolding up and a builder was undertaking repairs.

A spokesman for Lancaster City Council said: “Once everything is sorted and made safe by the builder, the road should then be reopened. It’s all in hand to be fixed.”

Stagecoach buses 2/2A were diverting down Regent Road due to the Euston Grove road closure.

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council Highways department said the road was due to be reopened on Wednesday.
