Firefighters were called to Brant Road in Ribbleton just before 7pm on Monday, where the 7-year-old girl had got stuck under a security fence.

Crew manager Dave Gallin said the child had tried to crawl under the metal fence in a “very small gap”, and found herself trapped.

He said: “The main concern for us was it was quite cold, and we think she was there about an hour before they called the fire service.

“Her friends were trying to get her out and they went and told her mum and she rang the fire brigade straight away.”

Firefighters initially tried to cut the fence, before digging around the child under the fence to free her.

Crews requested an ambulance to check over the girl, who was uninjured.
