A child was hurt after he was hit by a car in Preston.

The crash happened at about 8pm on Sunday, when a 12-year-old boy was crossing Barry Avenue in Ingol when he was hit by a blue car.

Police are now trying to trace the driver, who drove off after the collision.

The driver, described as a mixed race man, initially stopped at the scene but then drove off without leaving any details.

The boy, from Preston, was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital where he was treated for a head injury.

His condition is not thought to be serious.

Road Policing Sgt Dave Hurst said: “Thankfully the boy wasn’t too badly injured, however, we are keen to trace the driver of the car so we can get an idea of exactly how this collision has come to occur.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or indeed the driver himself to come forward and speak to us.”
