Staff, residents and visitors at an adult day care centre swam, sang and waxed away to raise hundreds of pounds for a local charity.

Charlotte House on Charlotte Street, Preston, dedicated its annual charity bonanza to Lostock Hall’s St Catherine’s Hospice.

Manager Karen Martin said: “We had various things going on throughout the week and all of the residents and their family members got involved.

“One of our male carers Joe Connelly had his legs waxed and we had staff placed in stocks on the car park so people could throw sponges full of custard at them – which everyone took great pleasure in.”

“I did a sponsored swim at Total Fitness with Adam Beckett and Denise Pearson.

“But I had to do it with one arm as I had just had an operation, rather than cancel I just strapped it down.”

Staff handed over a cheque for £508 to St Catherine’s.

Karen said: “We were surprised with how many people got involved.

“Some of our residents have severe cases of dementia so we were pleased to see them enjoy it.

“We chose St Catherine’s as we need to support our local charities.”
