As part of the Preston Housing Zone designation, which will see 776 homes developed over the next five years, Preston Council has been awarded the grant by the Homes and Communities Agency to support the project. At next week’s cabinet meeting, leaders will be asked to agree to include the funding in the council’s revenue budget.

The project includes plans for homes at the site of the former Tulketh High School, Argyll Road, the former St Joseph’s Orphanage in Mount Street, Winckley Square, Avenham Street Car Park, and the former Alliance Mill off New Hall Lane. A report said the money would include work on the former orphanage in respect of valuations and repairs costs, preparation of valuation reports on Lancashire County Council properties on Cross St, the preparation of the City Centre Living Strategy, and master planning work for the Stoneygate area and the Argyll Road site.
