Car damaged as flames pour out of bonnet

Firefighters were called when a car set alight after being parked for several hours.

Flames were coming from underneath the bonnet of the Volkswagen Passat and up the windscreen when crews from Preston fire station arrived on Dunbar Road, Ingol, at 6.45pm today.

They put out the fire, which damaged the engine compartment and the passenger area inside the car.

The vehicle had been driven a couple of hours earlier and was parked when the owner noticed it was alight.

An electrical fault in the engine compartment is thought to have caused the fire.
