A car fire closed the northbound carriageway of the M6 near Charnock Richard for 15 minutes on Monday.

Firefighters were called to the BMW just after 10am when the driver saw smoke coming through the vents and pulled over.

Officers believe it was caused by an electrical fault in an over-used fan and warned motorists of possible dangers.

The car was completely destroyed. No injuries were reported.
