Canoe challenge for Age UK Lancashire

A 26-mile canoe challenge from Preston to Lancaster will be held again this year to raise money for charity.

For the second time, Age UK Lancashire is hosting the event to enable it to continue its work in supporting older people in the county.

The challenge is taking place on Saturday, March 12, along the Lancaster canal.

Promotions manager David Ward said: “Based on the popularity and success of last year’s challenge we have decided to open it up to more people, so we’re calling for anyone interested to sign up now.

“We provide all of the equipment, which has been kindly donated by Aquaterra Pursuit, who are also putting on a free practice session for participants.

“The canoes are two-seaters so we are looking for pairs or teams should people wish to share the distance.

“There is no charge to enter; all we ask is that each person raises a minimum of £100 in sponsorship.

“We expect a good response so anyone wishing to take part needs to contact us before this Friday, February 12, to reserve their place.”
