Student Mary-Kate McKay from Preston placed third at the Miss England Finals for two years running, narrowly missing out on a place in Miss World, but went on to be invited on an all-expenses paid trip to model in Mauritius.

Now she’s backing organisers who want to hear from girls keen to emulate her success as they cast in two age groups; 17-25 years old for Miss Lancashire and 13-16 years old for Junior Miss Lancashire.

As well as taking part in a professional catwalk show, successful applicants will take part in a number of other events designed to build confidence and make new friends.

Co-organiser Mary Ainsworth said: “I entered Miss Bury in 2012 and although I didn’t win, it has literally changed my life. The confidence that taking part gave me opened up so many new doors and gave me incredible opportunities that I may not have had otherwise.”

The girls will take part in an activity day, meeting fellow contestants, organisers and the judges. They then take part in fundraising as well as preparg four outfits for the show, one of which is Eco Wear – an outfit made from recycled materials. They then take part in a day of rehearsals, and finally a four scene Catwalk Show and Awards ceremony.

Mary added: “You come away with skills such as fundraising, interview skills and being pro-active. Not only that, but you gain new friends and contacts, a huge confidence boost, and a new energy which motivates you to be the best version of you.”

The catwalk show takes place on Sunday, October 18. To apply, visit: www.misslancashire.com
