An award-winning chip shop has opened its second premises in Lancaster with support from Yorkshire Bank.
Nigel and Linda Hodgson received a business loan from the Bank to open their first Hodgson’s Chippy on Prospect Street back in 1988.
They have recently gone into partnership with one of their employees to establish a new shop.
Relationship manager Matt Anderton, based at the Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Preston, arranged a term loan of £122,500 to help finance the purchase and fit-out of a new Hodgson’s Chippy on Scotforth Road.
It will be run by the couple’s former shop manager Paul Eden.
Nigel Hodgson explained: “Paul has been with us for nearly 10 years now. We’ve looked after him loyally over the years and he has been an excellent member of our team, so it seemed like the right time to make him a partner and work together on a new shop together.
“The suppliers and the day-to-day operations of both shops are almost exactly the same and, of course, Linda and I are still in the background to hold Paul’s hand on the business side of things for the new shop.”
Both Nigel and Paul are individual award winners, and in 2006 Hodgson’s Chippy was given the prestigious accolade of Sea Fish Industry Authority National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year.
