A Chorley-based travel firm has bought one of the Isle of Wight’s leading hotels.

Expanding Leisureplex has acquired the 89-room Shanklin Hotel – one of the best known hotels on the island.

The purchase brings the Leisureplex estate to a total of 21 hotels in the UK.

The Shanklin Hotel, which was awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence Award in 2013, will be the group’s second hotel on the Isle of Wight, alongside the Bayshore Hotel, which is in nearby Sandown.

Paul Sawbridge, Leisureplex’s managing director, said: “We have long coveted this superb hotel which enables us to improve the standard we offer to our Alfa coach holiday customers visiting Shanklin.

“Just as importantly, it helps us to accommodate the huge surge in demand we have experienced in recent years from other coach holiday operators.”

The Shanklin has an indoor leisure complex, with a swimming pool and an indoor bowls area.

However, it is probably best known for its magnificent Starlite Room which is a superb venue for dinner dances and entertainment with breathtaking, panoramic views across the bay.

Other hotels in the group include the Queens Blackpool Hotel, the Croit Anna Hotel, Fort William, the Hydro Hotel, Llandudno, the Royal Norfolk Hotel, Bognor Regis and the Queen’s Hotel, Eastbourne

Leisureplex is sister company to Alfa Travel, the leading coach holiday operator, and are based at the Alfa Travel offices in Euxton Lane, Euxton.

Leisureplex has been catering for clients on coach holidays for more than 30 years in top seaside resorts throughout Britain.
