Matt Newing, chief executive officer and founder of has won the highly sought-after EN North West Technology Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2014.

The prestigious award recognises Matt as an ambitious leader with an excellent track record in building successful, national and international technology businesses.

The Chorley-based entrepeneur set up his first company in 1996 at the age of 23 with help from The Prince’s Trust.

Matt owns and works across more than 15 businesses and is constantly on the look-out for new opportunities and areas for investment.

The EN Awards ceremony took place at the Mere Resort in Knutsford last week.

Matt said: “I’m delighted to have been recognised as someone who is doing great things in and for the region.

“We have had a successful year as a business and it’s important that as a community we continue to support and harness the entrepreneurial spirit of the North West.

“To be in the tech sector at this time is both exciting and challenging, and with a shift to virtual, cloud and data centre services, businesses are addressing new avenues to transform their comms and tech.”

Meanwhile, Warton-based ICG is celebrating after being named The Most Entrepreneurial PR/Marketing Firm of the Year at the same event.

Peter Cobley, commercial director at ICG, said: “We are over the moon to win this award and needless to say, we are delighted to be recognised as the region’s most entrepreneurial PR/Marketing firm of the year.

“This is our 20th year in business and we’re incredibly proud of the company’s growth and our achievements.”
