The total value of private equity-backed buyouts in the North West fell by over 80 per cent to £244m compared with a year earlier .

The regional market had a slow start to 2014 according to the latest data from the Centre of Management Buyout Research.

The volume of private equity-backed transactions also declined in the North West, with five buyouts completed in the region in Q1 2014 compared with 11 transactions in the corresponding period last year and six in Q4 2013.

The total value recorded in Q1 2014 was dwarfed by the £1.3bn and £1.6bn figures for Q1 2013 and Q1 2012 respectively.The UK buyout arena maintained its momentum in Q1 2014 with 47 deals worth £4.3bn completed.
