Voluntary organisations in contact with adult carers can now apply for a small grant to help fund their work.

Lancashire County Council’s carers’ team is inviting voluntary, community and faith sector groups to find out more about the grants on Wednesday, January 30.

An event will take place at 2pm in the main conference room at East Cliff County Offices, Preston. Organisations who attend will learn how to bid for the grants, which range from £2,000 to £15,000.

The total budget available for allocation is £130,000.

County Coun Mike Calvert, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: “This is a great opportunity for voluntary organisations to develop new projects that support carers.

“Applicants will need to show that that their proposed activity or project will have direct and long-lasting benefit for carers in their area.

“During the grant funding workshop, the carers team will answer questions, give groups information on the best way to fill in the application form and give them all the help and encouragement they need to make the most of their bid.

“Applicants will also have the chance to look at bids that were successful in the last funding round, to give them an idea of the type and quality of bid they should be aiming for.”

One of the many organisations to have benefited from a previous grant is Age Concern, who secured funding for a training pack to help organisations working with individuals from black and minority ethnic communities.

Another organisation that has been helped by the scheme is N-Compass, which offers services for disabled people and carers, including advocacy, counselling and support for health and wellbeing.

It was helped to identify ‘hidden carers’ via GP’s surgeries. The funding paid for drop-in sessions at 25 surgeries, care awareness training with surgery staff and the identification of carers’ champions.

The closing date for applications is March 1.

The final decision will be made by representatives from the Lancashire Multi-Agency Carers’ Strategy Group together with carers.
