Mayor visits China to build Preston’s reputation in Far East

The Mayor and the Mayoress of Preston have travelled to Beijing.

The aim of the trip, of Coun Nick Pomfret and his wife Barbara, is to build a further relationship with Beijing University on top of the strong connections they have to Preston already through the University of Central Lancashire.

The Mayor will be promoting Preston as a place to study, live and invest.

During the trip the Mayor and Mayoress will take in the Chinese culture by visiting The Great Wall of China, Shaolin Si, and watching and joining in Chinese lessons and martial arts classes.

The trip has been paid for by Beijing University.

President Weidong Cao and Professor Jian Cai from Beijing University visited the Mayor in Preston in March.

The Mayor showed them around the council chambers and then showed them the regalia in the Mayor’s parlour.
