Lancashire-based Sector Security has provided security services to nearly 1,500 businesses and 250 domestic customers over the last two decades.
Now it is celebrating its 20th anniversary – with its female founder still at the helm.
The business, which has headquarters at Stanley House, Blackpool Road, Preston, was founded by managing director Margaret Wilson in February 1995.
The premises are still its head office and where its 24-hour control room is housed.
Growth has seen the company open two other offices since foundation. One is in Tyldesley, near Manchester; the other in Beeston, Leeds.
While Sector Security started with just Margaret on the payroll, it is now a £4.5m company employing 200 people.
Margaret said: “The past 20 years have been challenging and hard work, but also very fulfilling.
“I knew that I would be operating in a man’s world when I started the company, but have found that no barrier to achieving what I wanted – a successful, accredited company that is passionate about the field in which it specialises.”
Margaret added: “We are now planning for the next phase in Sector Security’s development, with growth on our agenda, but not at the expense of the quality service that we provide. That service may be security and surveillance, but what our customers actually buy is total peace of mind and our commitment to that will never change.”
Margaret’s son, Dirk Wilson, joined as commercial director in 2003, making the company a true family business with a succession plan for the future.
At foundation, its core service was that of key-holding and alarm response.
It continues to offer this to both commercial and domestic customers, but this now sits alongside manned guarding, mobile patrols, an open and close service, vacant property inspections, lone worker protection and CCTV monitoring.
For those needing to dispose of sensitive documentation, there is also the option of document storage and secure destruction.
The firm is accredited by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for CCTV, key-holding and security guarding services.
It is also a member of the BSIA (British Security Industry Association), continuously abiding by the BSIA Code of Practice.
Sector Security also has the coveted Gold Standard from the National Security Inspectorate (NSI), meeting the highest British and European security standards and following practices such as rigorous staff screening, while also providing first-class training.
