A community hero was treated to star status when she officially opened the new Co-operative Food store in Heysham, which relaunched following a £390,000 transformation.

Andrea Partridge, who was recognised for her tireless efforts as a volunteer co-ordinator for local charity CancerCare, took star status when she cut the ribbon with store manager Joyce Grant.

The new-look state-of-the-art store will focus on meal ideas, healthy, fresh foods and essentials.

It has been redesigned to make it easy and enjoyable for shoppers to pick up all the ingredients necessary to produce fantastic food, with ideas and tips on every aisle.

The in-store bakery has been increased, and there will be extended ranges of fresh produce, ready meals and pizzas.

The store will also be a hub of the community, with information about local events, and details about how groups can benefit from The Co-operative Membership’s Community Fund, which distributes monies to support for local good causes.

Joyce Grant said: “I’m excited about welcoming customers into the new-look store, which will offer a completely different shopping experience. The Co-operative is a community retailer, and so we are committed to playing a real role in local life. I’m delighted Andrea could join us in the store to share in our special day.”
