A popular restaurant has been given the go ahead for an extension.

Bosses from the Italian Orchard in Whittingham Lane in Broughton, Preston, applied to build a new function room, extend it’s pre-function room, create a new access road and additional parking.

The plans were heard by Preston Council’s planning committee on Monday and were given a go ahead.

Councillors heard plans for a construction of a 250 cover function room and car park extension along with the conversion of part of the existing living accommodation to a wine bar with 80 covers was granted planning permission in 2004 under planning application. Only the car park was constructed. It has been agreed for this plan to be given the go ahead the wine bar could not be built.

A document before the planning committee said: “The proposed extension would be constructed using a mix of rustic brickwork, random stone and natural blue-grey slate to give a rural character, contrasted with the use of some modern materials such as steel and glass. The function room would have a footprint of approximately 35m x 18m, linked to a pre-function area which would be laid out in a staggered footprint, with doors opening onto an open area of hardstanding.”
