Britain’s economic recovery slowed sharply at the start of the year according to official figures.

Gross domestic product (GDP) grew by just 0.3 per cent in the first quarter, just half the rate seen in the last three months of 2014. It means that after experiencing the strongest growth among the G7 leading advanced economies last year, the UK looks on course to begin 2015 at a more sluggish pace.
