The High Court has quashed a decision to stop an energy group storing 600 million cubic metres of natural gas in Lancashire.

Halite Energy had been refused planning permission for the site at Preesall in a long-running battle with council planners and residents.

Today Keith Budinger, Chief Executive of Halite Energy Group, confirmed that judgement had been handed down quashing the decision made by the Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change in April 2013 to refuse consent for the project.

He said: “The High Court has upheld Halite’s legal challenge on all grounds.

“The Board of Halite Energy Group will be working with its legal and planning advisers and looks forward to participating in the process that will lead to a redetermination of our application by the Secretary of State.

“Meanwhile Halite will not be issuing any further comment.”
