A business leader has called for roadworks to be planned more carefully to avoid major snarl-ups impacting on stores in the build-up to Christmas.
Deepdale Retail Park in Preston has been gridlocked this week with work on Blackpool Road causing huge tailbacks for shoppers trying to get in and out.
Babs Murphy, chief executive of the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, said: “It’s simply bad planning and bad timing. Businesses are yet again being severely disrupted during their busiest period.
“The traffic problems that residents, visitors and businesses in and around Preston have had to face in recent months are appalling. It’s vital for local authorities to be aware of how multiple roadworks are impacting on each other. Roadworks should be planned far more carefully and in a systematic manner in order to make the whole system more efficient, especially at Christmas time. It is so important to send out a message that Preston is open for business.”
