Bid to open craft beer bar in Preston city centre

The expert pint-pullers behind a family run Lancashire craft beer bar are hoping to open a new outlet in Preston city centre.

Adam Godwin, part of the team behind the The Market Ale House in Leyland, has submitted a bid to the town hall to transform a former beauty salon at 42 Lune Street.

Plug & Taps, as it will be called, will have a range of cask beers following the successful blueprint of the popular micro pub set-up in the neighbouring town.

Adam also hopes the new establishment will tap in to an influx of independent bars and eateries in Preston.

He said: “We hope that with the help of other pubs and bars already selling craft beer – The Guild Ale House, The Moorbrook, The Continental and others – plus the introduction of some other new places that are due to open, we can create a bit of a beer and drink scene in the city.

“There seems to be a bit of a boom with independent restaurants and coffee shops opening up, with this we are hoping we can draw people into the city instead of maybe heading out to Manchester or Liverpool.

“We will have roughly four or five cask beer lines and more than 10 keg lines. We will also have at least one cider available on tap.”

If given the green light from planners, Plug & Taps could be in operation later in 2018.

Adam added that the name is a nod to history. Adjacent to the Lune Street location is the memorial in memory of striking cotton workers who were killed or injured during the 1842 General Strike, also known as the Plug Plot Riots.
