One of the original tenants of Preston’s indoor market has surprisingly pulled out of a move to the new building.

Mother and son Ellen and Norman Young, who run Banana King fruit and veg stall, have decided not to switch when the state-of-the-art replacement is opened on February 12.

Instead the business has decided to buy a shop unit just yards away in Orchard Street and could be moving in before Christmas.

“We did intend to move into the new market, but the package Preston Council have offered just isn’t right for us,” explained Norman, whose family moved into the market hall when it opened in the seventies.

“This shop came up, it’s a fantastic location and our customers won’t be inconvenienced. We are just yards from the new market.

“We’ve been very happy in the old market hall and we really wish the new place every success. But we won’t be part of it.”
