Getting help from the Citizens Advice Bureau will soon be even easier thanks to the launch of a new phone number.

Lancashire West CAB will have a dedicated phone number - 0844 245 1294 - for callers from the Chorley, South Ribble, West Lancashire and Wyre districts hoping to speak to fully-trained local advisers.

The new number will also have a call-back service, which can be used when all the advisers are on other calls.

It is part of a UK-wide initiative called Adviceline, which uses a high-tech phone network.

Calls will cost less than the standard local rate from a BT landline, though anyone on free call packages will pay the same amount, and callers from mobiles will also be given a lower cost option.

Lancashire West CAB’s chief executive, Diane Gradwell, said: “This will make us more accessible to everyone, especially when all the recent changes in welfare benefits mean we often receive a high volume of calls.

“There will be absolutely no change in the service that people receive from our advisers – if people need local advice, they will receive it as they always have.”

The system will go live from Tuesday, April 1 and will operate from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The current phone numbers (01772 424282 and 01695 716926) will no longer operate.
