Councillors at Preston City Council voted the plans for land behind 126A Whittingham Lane through seven to five.

The proposals, which include the demolition of 126A Whittingham Lane, garnered objections from 137 residents in the area.

According to council planning documents the development would provide for 35 per cent affordable housing, management and maintenance of open space on-site and financial contributions for school places, travel planning and for the improvement of bus services in the village,

Plans were submitted by agent Helen Leggett of Emery Planning Partnership on behalf of applicant listed only as A Bradshaw.

Broughton Parish Council, Whittingham Parish Council, Goosnargh Parish Council and Wyre and Preston North MP Ben Wallace also lodged their opposition to the scheme with planning officers, who had recommended it for approval.
