Budding Billy Elliots have the chance to take centre stage alongside some of the best in the business for a new ballet production.
The award-winning English Youth Ballet (known as EYB) is auditioning for roles in a romantic and ghostly, full-length production of Giselle.
The national touring company, headed by former Royal Ballet Company dancer Janet Lewis MBE is looking to audition 100 young male and female dancers aged eight to 18 years for the show, on Tuesday November 3 at the Charter Theatre in Preston. The lucky youngsters will be offered the chance to rehearse with and dance alongside international professional principal dancers in the production which will be staged for three performances, over a two-night run in Preston from March 4 -5, 2016.
EYB Director – Janet Lewis says: “The EYB audition is an experience in itself.
“EYB is all about performance experience and this starts at the audition as the dancers are given a regular ballet class on the stage.
“Parents and family are encouraged to watch from the audience. We are looking for young dancers of all abilities who can show the audience how much they enjoy their dancing.”
The EYB is now in its 17th year and is one of the largest ballet companies in the UK.
The principal dancers have performed with some of the world’s greatest companies including English National Ballet, La Scala and the Boston Ballet.
The young dancers selected will benefit from professional coaching and mentoring in an 11-day rehearsal period which takes place out of school hours.
Each audition will take the form of a regular ballet class.
It is advisable to register for the audition in advance but it is possible to register on the day by arriving 30 minutes early.
The audition fee is £15.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday November 3 at the Charter Theatre, 4.30 – 6.15pm for dancers aged eight to 11 years, 6.45pm– 8.30pm for dancers aged 12–18.
