But when six-year-old Oscar Gordon had his first cut it turned into a great occasion not only for his proud family but also Derian House Children’s Hospice.A 12-inch plait was cut off, raising £60 for the Chorley-based hospice that cares for children with life-limiting conditions or life-threatening illnesses from across the North West.Oscar, of Southport, said: “I wanted to help other children. I’d never wanted to have my hair cut before but it had started getting in the way, especially when I went swimming.”Oscar’s fund-raising effort was supported by his grandma and grandad Pam and Bob Teesdale, who pledged £5 for every inch of hair that was cut, with Oscar’s mum Katy now in proud possession of the plait.Community fund-raiser Judy Miller said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Oscar for dedicating his first haircut to us here at Derian.“There is something truly special about children caring about other youngsters who may be struggling and doing something practical to help.“Oscar is certainly a very caring young man – and looks very smart with his new haircut.”
